Lyrical Inspiration

Music has a huge part in my life, It can inspire me, cheer me up, motivate me, and give me courage. So when Kate Harding wrote this post about how certain singers/bands have effected her and her feminism and then reading the comments that came from that it made me think about certain songs that have effected me.

While I don't classify myself as a feminist so I didn't have much to add to the comments on that thread, I have definitely had songs effect me in the area of Fat Acceptance and learning to love myself. One band in particular is the band Superchick. The following song in particular makes me think of the Fatosphere and inspires me a lot as I go through life.... plus it is a totally rockin' song to listen to while I am on the treadmill or in the car !!

So Beautiful ~ Superchick

We are a thousand voices strong
We are each girl who sings this song
We are a beauty that is our own
And we are
And we are
So beautiful

We are light
We were born beautiful
We were meant to be more then these shadows of girls
They cut us down to size
Afraid we'll change the world?
But we'll fight for your right to be beautiful girls
If every girl could see her beauty,
We would be an army

We are a thousand voices strong
We are each girl who sings this song
We are a beauty that is our own
And we are
And we are
So beautiful

We have dreams we were born to fulfill
We were meant to be more than just fairy tale girls
We are the colors so bright
Each beautiful girl
We are the stars in the night
And we are changing the world
When every girl can see her beauty we will be an army

  1. How do you feel about the song "Courage"?

It is often used in tribute videos to anorexia/E.D's and whatnot.

    This video is against those.

  2. I love that song and I think that Superchick would be very saddened to hear that it was promoting something that Melissa went through and overcame, especially when it is such a dangerous and devastating disorder.

Thank you for linking me to that video it is beautiful, it tore at my heart to see all those who lost their fight. I know that that song really helped me in my life and I hope it will help others!
